Rick’s musical life
started early as an 8 yr old sitting in on guitar with his dad’s
country western band and playing guitar and harmonica (yes, both
at the same time) in the 5th grade harmonica band. He
quickly matured in the jr. high and high school years with
aspiring garage rock bands
playing the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Beach Boys and Dave Clark
Five.
It seems Rick reached
the pinnacle of his musical career in his college years where he
played drums and percussion in the marching band, flute and
percussion in the orchestra, guitar in the jazz ensemble, sang
vocal leads in school musicals and learned piano just for the hell
of it on his way to a music degree. As busy as school was,
he still had time to play in a couple
of local pop/rock bands and do occasional duo and solo
gigs.
However, it wasn’t long
after graduation when Rick’s hair and musical career seemed to
take a turn for the worst. In a moment of weakness he
followed his parent’s advice to have ‘some REAL career’ to fall
back on and he actually got a day job.
Since then Rick has kept
music he loves fun. He has
played guitar and keyboards for several pop, rock and country
bands or duos while living a musical career vicariously through
his two sons who are professional studio and touring
musicians. Now he’s doing the ultimate FUN gig … playing
Jimmy Buffet and island music with Capt’n Henry and the
Rumrunners. What could be more fun
than that … playing fun music for wild people having
fun.
